You do not need a gym to build glutes. You need three things: exercises that actually load the muscle, enough range of motion to stretch it, and a way of knowing whether your reps are any good. The first two are below. The third is the bit almost everyone gets wrong at home, and we will come back to it.
The six best at-home glute exercises
1. Glute bridge
The most underrated glute builder there is. Lie on your back, knees bent, feet flat and close to your bum. Drive through your heels, lift your hips until your body forms a straight line from knees to shoulders, and squeeze hard at the top for a full second. Lower slowly.
The mistake: not finishing the rep. Most people stop about 70% of the way up, which skips the exact part of the range where the glutes do the most work.
2. Hip thrust (sofa version)
Same movement as the bridge, but with your upper back resting on a sofa or bed. The elevation increases range of motion dramatically, and range of motion is where growth lives. If you can only do one exercise, do this one.
3. Bodyweight squat
Feet shoulder-width, toes turned slightly out. Sit back and down until your thighs are at least parallel. Depth is everything here: half squats train quads, deep squats train glutes.
4. Sumo squat
A wider stance with toes turned out shifts the work toward your inner thighs and outer glutes. This is the one that builds width and that side-on roundness.
5. Reverse lunge
Step back, drop the back knee toward the floor, drive through the front heel to stand. Single-leg work exposes strength imbalances you cannot see in a squat, and almost everyone has one.
6. Glute kickback
On hands and knees, drive one heel toward the ceiling with a straight-ish leg. Small movement, big squeeze. Perfect as a finisher when the big exercises have already tired you out.
A simple week
- Monday: Hip thrusts, squats, reverse lunges
- Tuesday: Rest or walk
- Wednesday: Glute bridges, sumo squats, kickbacks
- Thursday: Rest
- Friday: Hip thrusts, lunges, bridges to finish
- Weekend: Rest, or one light session if you feel good
Three sessions, 10 to 20 minutes each. That is genuinely enough to change your shape in a couple of months.
The thing that decides whether any of this works
Rep quality. Ten deep, controlled glute bridges with a real squeeze at the top beat thirty rushed ones every time, and the difference is invisible while you are doing it. At home there is no coach to say "you are stopping short" or "that was too fast".
That is exactly why Butt Lift scores every rep with your camera: depth, tempo and control, judged live, with a cue the moment your hips stop finishing. It is the missing piece of home training, and it is the reason home programs stall.
