Best Camera-Based Fitness Apps for Glute Training

Of the six apps compared here, one watches the rep. The other five hand you a video and trust you.

12 of 15 reps FORM 92% Depth, tempo and control, scored live On device. No video leaves your phone.

Short answer

Butt Lift is the camera-based pick for glutes: the iPhone camera counts every rep and scores it live on depth, tempo and control, all on device.

The other five compared are strong apps, just not camera apps.

Sweat leads on trainer-authored programmes, Nike Training Club on free breadth, Fitbod on gym strength programming, and the two challenge apps on simple follow-along routines.

Camera tracking and video demos are not the same thing

Most glute apps play a clip and wait for you to tap done. That is a demonstration, not measurement.

A camera-based app points the phone at you and reads the movement. Butt Lift uses on-device pose detection, so the rep is counted and scored, not self-reported.

It matters in the ugly middle of a set, when depth quietly shrinks and tempo creeps up. A video cannot notice that. A camera can.

How camera rep counting works: pose points read on device, each rep scored on depth, tempo and control, then counted or flagged with a cue. A video demo app skips the whole chain and leaves the counting to you.

The six apps, and who each is genuinely for

Butt Lift is for anyone who wants personalised glute training with automatic rep counting and form scoring instead of a video to copy.

Ten glute focused exercises, sessions from about 5 to 25 minutes.

Sweat is for women who want a credible trainer-authored programme, powerbuilding and strength included, home or gym. Self-tracked throughout, weights logged by hand.

Nike Training Club is the free library: strength, HIIT, yoga, pilates, recovery and mindfulness, with an Apple Watch remote. It verifies attendance by trust, not execution by sensor.

Fitbod decides your gym programming for you: non-linear periodization, recovery tracking, over 1000 exercises with multi-angle videos.

Glutes get served indirectly, through muscle-group targeting.

30 Day Butt Challenge Pro is a ready-made no-equipment 30-day plan with HealthKit sync, reminders, diet plans and a transformation tracker. Completion is self-marked.

Daily Butt Workout is the simplest here: trainer clips, a countdown timer, fully offline. Completion is time elapsed, not performance confirmed.

  • Camera rep counting and form scoring: Butt Lift, of the six compared
  • Trainer-authored programme depth: Sweat
  • Free breadth across modalities: Nike Training Club
  • Algorithmic gym programming: Fitbod
  • Offline simplicity: Daily Butt Workout

When a camera app is the wrong choice

Train in a packed gym with barbells and racks and propping a phone to see your whole body is a faff. Fitbod is the better tool there, and it is honest about being a logbook.

Want a named coach, a community and a long progressive programme? Sweat takes that one outright. Butt Lift does not compete on programme library or community.

On Android, this is settled. Fitbod runs on Android; Butt Lift is iPhone only.

Why Butt Lift is different

It does one job: personalised glute training with automatic rep counting and form scoring.

The camera scores each rep live on depth, tempo and control. Sloppy reps score lower and get flagged with a cue, while a clean rep streak drives the combo.

Pose detection runs on device. No video is recorded, stored or uploaded.

Onboarding builds a real 28 day plan from your answers: program, strength, weekly frequency, session length and focus areas. It is not one fixed plan for everyone.

Three shape programs: Lift & Sculpt for upper glute lift, V-Shape Builder for side glutes and waist, Full Curve for balanced all round shape.

It adapts from bodyweight to bands and dumbbells.

Flag knees, hips, lower back or wrists and it reroutes the exercises around them. Coach voice comes in Sweet, Sassy or Savage, with streaks and session ranks.

The ten exercises: glute bridge, hip thrust, squat, sumo squat, lunge, donkey kick, fire hydrant, curtsy lunge, single-leg bridge and step-up.

Butt Lift trains and measures; it promises no outcome.

How to pick in under a minute

Want feedback on how the rep looked? Of the six compared, only Butt Lift measures it. The rest ask you to judge yourself.

Want a plan handed to you, no camera, no setup? 30 Day Butt Challenge Pro or Daily Butt Workout.

Want whole-body breadth for free? Nike Training Club. Want glutes specifically, measured? That narrows to one.

Download Butt Lift free on iPhone, answer the onboarding questions and see your first scored session. Butt Lift Pro unlocks the full 28 day plan.

Questions people ask

Does Butt Lift record me while I train?

No. Pose detection runs on device, and no video is recorded, stored or uploaded. The camera reads the movement in the moment, and nothing leaves the phone.

Can you cheat the rep counter?

You can flail and get something counted. You will not get the score. Sloppy reps score lower and get flagged with a cue, and a scrappy set breaks the clean rep combo.

Does it work with the sound off?

Yes, you just lose the audio cues. The coach voice has three tones, Sweet, Sassy and Savage, but rep counting and form scoring come from the camera, not the sound.

Do I need equipment?

No. It adapts from bodyweight up to bands and dumbbells, and you set that in onboarding.

What if my knees or lower back are dodgy?

Flag knees, hips, lower back or wrists in onboarding and the app reroutes exercises around them. It is training software, not medical advice, so check with a professional if something hurts.

Is it free?

Free to download, and no account is required. Butt Lift Pro unlocks the full 28 day plan.
