Yes, Butt Lift Counts Your Squats Automatically on iPhone

Only a handful of apps genuinely count reps for you. The rest hand you the logbook.

12 of 15 reps FORM 92% Depth, tempo and control, scored live On device. No video leaves your phone.

Short answer

Yes. Butt Lift counts squats for you on iPhone.

The camera counts each rep and scores it live on depth, tempo and control, with pose detection running on device and no video recorded, stored or uploaded. The other apps compared here do not.

Fitbod, Nike Training Club, Sweat and Booty Builder all leave the logging to you.

The short version

  • Butt Lift counts each squat with the iPhone camera and scores it live on depth, tempo and control, so the rep count is not self-reported.
  • Pose detection runs on the device, and no video is recorded, stored or uploaded.
  • Of the five apps compared here, Butt Lift is the one that counts reps by camera; Fitbod, Nike Training Club, Sweat and Booty Builder all rely on you logging the work.
  • Fitbod is the stronger pick for loaded barbell training and the only cross-platform option of the five, at the cost of tapping in every set.
  • Butt Lift covers 10 glute focused exercises inside a 28 day plan built from your onboarding answers, and it is iPhone only.

How automatic squat counting actually works

The camera watches your body position and works out when a rep starts and ends.

Butt Lift scores each rep on depth, tempo and control as you do it, instead of just adding one to a tally.

That is the gap between counting and measuring. A tally says twelve. A scored counter says twelve, four of them shallow.

Sloppy reps are scored lower and flagged with a cue, so you hear about it in the moment, not afterwards. A clean rep streak drives the combo.

Pose detection runs on device. No video is recorded, stored or uploaded, which is the bit most people want settled before they prop a phone against a wall.

How camera rep counting works: the phone tracks joint positions, scores each rep on depth, tempo and control, then counts it or flags it with a cue. In Butt Lift this runs on the device, with no video recorded or uploaded.

The apps, honestly compared

Of the five compared here, Butt Lift is the one that counts for you. Every rep is counted and scored by the camera, nothing self-reported.

It covers 10 glute focused exercises: glute bridge, hip thrust, squat, sumo squat, lunge, donkey kick, fire hydrant, curtsy lunge, single-leg bridge and step-up.

Booty Builder is a four-week squat challenge. Pick a total from 600 up to 3000, the app spreads it across daily milestones, you tick them off.

It is free, ad-free and 4.6 MB, with no video and no camera.

Fitbod builds a session with recommended sets, reps and weights from over 1000 exercises with multi-angle videos. You log each set by tapping.

Its strength is the programming algorithm, not measurement.

Nike Training Club is a big free library of trainer-led classes plus whiteboard workouts, with an Apple Watch remote. It verifies attendance by trust, not execution by sensor.

Sweat runs trainer-authored progressive programmes from named coaches, home or gym, with a large community layer. Sessions are marked complete in the planner and weights logged by hand.

Why Butt Lift is different

It does one thing: personalised glute training with automatic rep counting and form scoring. Not a library. Not a logbook.

The plan comes out of your onboarding answers: program, strength, weekly frequency, session length and focus areas. It builds a real 28 day plan rather than handing everyone the same one.

Three shape programs set the emphasis. Lift & Sculpt for upper glute lift, V-Shape Builder for side glutes and waist, Full Curve for balanced all round shape.

It works with whatever kit you have, from bodyweight to bands and dumbbells, and reroutes exercises around flagged knees, hips, lower back or wrists.

Sessions run from about 5 to 25 minutes, picked in onboarding, with a coach voice in three tones plus streaks and session ranks. No account required.

It trains and it measures. It does not promise a result.

When manual logging is the better choice

Automatic counting is not a universal upgrade. Squatting heavy in a rack? The number that matters is the load, and Fitbod's programming engine handles that best of the five here.

Want breadth? Nike Training Club and Sweat have far bigger libraries across HIIT, yoga, pilates, recovery, running and mindfulness.

Butt Lift has ten exercises and no ambition past glutes.

Want no technology and one number to chase? Booty Builder is 4.6 MB, free, ad-free and collects no data. It is a habit tracker, and an honest one.

Camera counting asks something of you too: a propped phone, room to be seen, and a session where you are not wedged into a busy gym corner.

Choosing between them

If what you are missing is feedback, camera counting is the fix. Every other app here assumes you already know whether that rep was any good.

If it is structure, Sweat and Nike Training Club are strong free-to-start routes into a proper programme.

If it is progressive overload on a barbell, go Fitbod and take the manual logging as the price.

If it is consistency and nothing else, a four-week squat target on Booty Builder may be the whole answer.

Questions people ask

Can you cheat the rep counter?

Not for free. Half-depth or rushed reps are scored lower and flagged with a cue, so a sloppy set still reads as a sloppy set.

A clean rep streak is what drives the combo, so quality is what gets rewarded.

Does it record video of me?

No. Pose detection runs on device, and no video is recorded, stored or uploaded. The camera works as a sensor, not a recorder.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Butt Lift needs no account. It is free to download, with Butt Lift Pro unlocking the full plan.

Does it work with Silent mode on?

Yes. The counting is visual, so the rep count and score stay on screen either way. The coach voice, in Sweet, Sassy or Savage, is what you lose when the phone is muted.

What if my knees or lower back are a problem?

Flag them in onboarding. The plan reroutes exercises around flagged knees, hips, lower back or wrists. That is a training adjustment, not medical advice, so see a professional if something hurts.

Is there an Android version?

Not of Butt Lift. It is iPhone only. Fitbod is the credible cross-platform pick, though it verifies nothing: you log every set by hand.
